Remember your Childhood, The Brownies & New and True

Do you like Vintage Children Illustrations?
Florence was working in  a special technique with my new adorable "Remember your Childhood" Digi Sheet.so i am showing her work and the how-to tutorial,,,,,,to get this amazing result.

For a long time now I have seen crafters and artists using book pages in their work. I have even rubber stamped onto book pages but the other day I wondered if I could actually print my Nicecrane Designs digi stamp onto book pages……and yey it worked. I was so excited!!!!!

This is quite a large card because, really, I was experimenting to see if this technique would work.
Firstly I altered my image in “paint” on the computer using the eraser tool and deleted all of the background so that I was only left with the little girl. I had never done this before but it was easy to do.

I *printed my image onto the book page and coloured it in using some basic water colour pencils and then just softened the colour with a very lightly damp paint brush. The brush only has to be slightly damp otherwise it will break up the fibres of the paper.

As this was quite a large image that I was using, and glues and double sided tape show though the pages, when attaching them to the base card, I stiched around the image to attach it to card.

AND NOW......THE BROWNIES....
But that is not all,,,,,Florence also was working with my new funny and unique sheet called "The Brownies in "Fairyland", based on a vintage famous children illustration book by Palmer Cox . I am falling in love with these adorable ones. This is my second card using the same technique, again just experimenting, but I really liked the effect. Again I used water colour pencils to colour.
Created by Canadian artist Palmer Cox around the 1880's, the Brownies were a comical group of little elfin characters, all male, that depicted ethnic types such as a Chinese fellow or an Indian; various occupations such as a policeman, sailor, or jockey; and other little characters such as band-members and their instruments

I tore my book page to the size I wanted for my card and sewed it to the backing card.

I wanted to make an embellishment for this in the form of a medal although looking at it on here it is a little bit big but hey ho….not going to loose any sleep over that.

The Brownies…. these are such good fun to use. They probably would not have been my first choice but again, after working with them I love them.

By the other hand you can`t miss the gorgeus work by Danielle working with my "New & True DSL" to create this exquisite Mother Card....love the color combo and how creative is Danielle-

To allow the image to have the main focus, I decided not to use any embellishments. Printed the image with black ink and colored in the grey and daffodil delight. Isn't this sweet? I remember that wonderful feeling of rocking my babies. Will really enjoy having grandkids and being able to experience that again (although that better be a bit down the road yet).

Hope you will decide to join us this week at Addicted to Stamps and More! for our Color Challenge #58 With a Twist. There is a link to Nicecrane Designs blog and store on the challenge site. The other lovely ladies on the ATS&M DT have also made some gorgeous creations for your inspiration - click here to visit them and enter our challenge.

Finally Mimí also is participating at ATSM Challenge , and she was working with my "Wild Swan" Digi Stamp, enjoy watching her stunning work:

I decided to use the canary colour to create a sunset appearance. I coloured the background in shades of grey digitally and printed. I then used Promarker Canary and the spray gun system to add shades of yellow over the grey. The photo is showing a bit of pink going on in the grey coloured areas - sorry about that, must be the way the light is reflecting. Bit of masking going on too as I did not want the swans to be coloured yellow <g>. Next step was to colour the swans, I used ProMarker Ice Grey 1 and 3 along with the blender pen.

The front swan was fussy cut and adhered with double sided foam tape for extra dimension. Gold was added to the beaks of the swans as I could not colour over the black with the Canary Promarker with any success. I created the background paper to co-ordinate colour wise as I did not seem to have anything that matched. The card was matted with a layer of black, a layer of grey, pattern yellow layer. The digi was matted onto black as were the two sentiments. I added three black vinyl cut strips and white lace to the backgound then assembled the card. To finish the sentiments off I added a used the gold pen around the edge of the black layer, added black ribbon, metal charm and yellow button and mounted with foam tape. The birthday sentiment was also matted in black, 2 metallic yellow brads were added and again this was mounted with foam tape.

Peter Rabbit Toffe Box & Kittens Cards by L. Wain

I love Peter Rabbit World,,,,,and I had forgot to post this adorable and custom Peter Rabbit Tofe Box by Wenche.....OMG,,,,so cute, so unique, so elegant,,,,,,,,.The perfect gift,,,,,,,,,,,,Try it,,,,,,

Double Toffe Box (Peter Rabbit)

I've decorated many toffifee-boxes before, but this time I needed several pieces chocolate. The receiver was in fact the staff in the nursery, and then became a box too small

Solved it by gluing two boxes on top of each other, before I decorated the same way as if it were a single.

This time I dressed boxes of cardboard, and then with panels of patterned paper from the Paper Design. lace, ribbon, flowers and pearls are also from Paper Design. The large hydrangea-flowers are originally creme, but got blue glimmerist wearing.

Sandra Dow did this Kitten Card working with my new "Louis Wain Kitten DSL I". I made today's card for my friend Ignacio over at Nicecrane Designs. He recently promoted a collection of digital images by the well-known English artist, Louis Wain.

Now, getting back to the subject ... I like to use Nicecrane Designs images from time to time because they provide the opportunity to practice my colouring texture skills. Take a peek at the before photo here to see what I mean…

I printed everything out on Neenah card stock and then used my Copic markers; quite a collection of colours I must say...

Cats: E00, 1, 2, 4, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, E49, E93, YG61, 63 and R2, 5, 8
Doll: E0000, 000, 00 and N0, 1, 3, 5, 7

Here is a closer look at my attempt at texture, and the more I look at this I realize Calico cats have a lot more white, oh well…

**Please forgive any out of the lines colouring, thanks**

So showing you all the potential from my Louis Wain Sheet, take a look to the work by Monika Skinner
working with this adorable sheet.....woww,woww thanks Monika:

I coloured my image using Promarker Pens. Wanting to do something different by giving it a sort of textured look, I allowed the image to dry and then went over the cat again using the cool grey1 marker. The sentiment is hand written using a black fineliner pen.
And here is my Kitten Sheet:

Sure sure,,,,, not only kittens.......but plants, flowers and more:

Enjoy watching the work by Nonni working with my "Vintage Flowers DSL"

I should try to find my own "fusion-style" (that sounds trendy, doesn't it!) where I would bring together elements from different styles and try to make it work. I think I managed quite well with that in this card: a hand-colored image- quite simple layout, not too frilly- my favorite embellishments (lace and pearls, only my beloved doilies are missing!) and since that heart-paper is more of a cute style, the card doesn't look too formal or grandma-style.
